Some information on ROI
As a newly formed rescue organisation Rescue Organisation Ireland (ROI) has come a long way in a short time. Built on the drive and commitment of members of the Republic of Ireland F&RS and assistance from Northern Ireland F&RS, the IDP and the WRO the ROI came into existence in September 2008 with the formation of a committee and election of officials who ratified the ROI constitution. Elected members come from all corners of Ireland and have worked tirelessly to bring the focus of casualty centred training and rescue to operational emergency responding personnel within Ireland.
Prior to the official ratification of ROI two Skills Days and attendance at the World Rescue Challenge in Cardiff were arranged in order to generate interest in rescue challenges and the formation of a national organisation. The two Skills Days were held by Carlow Fire and Rescue Service in June and November 2008. Both events were extremely successful, seeing over ninety F&R personnel from twelve Fire Authorities attend. Also in attendance were World Rescue Organisation assessors and officials.
In recognition of ROI’s capabilities and the wide range of skills its members possess it was invited, in 2008, to provided feedback to the Fire Services Council on a Draft Road Traffic Accident manual as part of the consultation process.
